Forming of dry engineering textiles is a quality-critical operation in composites manufacturing. There are various different defect mitigation strategies that have been developed to ensure material will not wrinkle or fold when depositing and forming. One promising direction the modification textile properties regions where likely form. This can be achieved by integration patches: additional materials, such as reactive thermally-conditioned resins, tufted stitched yarns, thermoplastic films, locally activated binder, etc. method simple effective for certain class forming problems. The success depends on balance between patched materials. At present, there no clearly established methodology characterisation these formability enhancements. Patches local an isolated coupon often cannot extracted from hosting fabric. paper discusses feasibility adapting conventional bias extension test extract shear enhanced material. obtained critical modelling tools inform optimum patch location orientation. suggested approach practical, implement proven provide reasonable degree accuracy non-linear elastic visco-elastic behaviours.
